Load interrupting with 20kA asymmetrical momentary
G&W's polemount Rotary Puffer (RP) switches are
ideal for manual switching or distribution automation
applications rated 15.5 and 27 kV, 630 A continuous
requiring up to 20kA asymmetrical momentary. RP switches
are designed in accordance with applicable ANSI and
IEC standards. Various packages are available.

Manual
Switch Package |
 |
The manual polemount RP switch is G&W's most
cost effective alternative to traditional gang-operated
air break switches. Standard components include:
1. Eleven gauge mild steel tank painted light gray
with stainless steel and brass fasteners.
2. Two lifting eyes.
3. Crossarm bracket and mounting hardware.
4. Grounding provisions.
5. Gas pressure gauge and fill valve.
6. Three line diagram and corrosion resistant nameplate.
7. Spring operator.
8. Aluminum operating handle.
9. Viewing window on the bottom front cover with colored
contact position indicator (open/green, closed/red).
10. Padlock provisions for open and close positions.
11. Bolted, gasketed porcelain bushings.

Motor
Control Package |
 |
This package provides remote control of the switch from
ground level or a nearby structure. Standard components
include:
1. Items 1-11 for manual switch above.
2. 24 VDC motor actuator with remote control interface.
3. Switch position indication with remote monitoring
interface.
4. Low pressure warning device (located under front
cover) with remote monitoring interface.
5. Thirty-five feet of control cable between the switch
and controller.
6. Electronic controller with pushbutton operation and
SCADA interface housed in a NEMA 4X enclosure approximately
16"W x 18"H x 9"D (406mm x 457mm x 228mm).
Approximate weight is 50 lbs. (23kg). An AC supply (customer
supplied) is required. The controller includes charger
and batteries.

Automated
Switch Package |
 |
For SCADA applications: This package provides motor
control and integral voltage and current sensing which
may be required for SCADA applications. Standard components
include:
1. Items 1-6 for motor control package above (except
for bushings).
2. Three bolted, gasketed porcelain over epoxy bushings
with integral voltage sensors for one side and three
conventional porcelain bushings for the other side.
3. Three current transformers (600A=5A) mounted in the
switch tank.
 |
OPTIONS |
 |
1. Bolted, gasketed apparatus bushings (AL conductor).
2. Bolted, gasketed elastomeric bushings (AL conductor).
3. Down rod operator (for Manual switch). Includes hardware
only, no rods.
4. Style 8 NEMA aerial lugs.
5. 4/0 lug for grounding.
6. Polemount bracket.
7. Remote Terminal Unit (requires larger control cabinet).

Automated
Sectionalizing |
 |
Automated Rotary Puffer switches can be used for sectionalizing
schemes where a 3 second open and 3 second close operation
meets the application requirement.
 |
Automatic
Transfer |
 |
Standard speed ATC packages are available permitting
automatic transfer with approximately 3 seconds for
each switch operation. Microprocessor based controllers
are ideal for overhead systems which may require quick
restoration to critical loads. Distributed communication
capability permits the switches to be miles apart from
each other. |
